An exhibition of work by Jeremy Deller.

A hugely influential artist for much of the past two decades, Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller has helped to rewrite the rules of contemporary art in many respects. This mid-career survey - the first in the artist’s career - offers a fresh overview of his multi-faceted work, in which he explores compelling social and cultural territories while alternately taking on the roles of artistic producer, publisher, filmmaker, collaborator, curator, parade organiser, and cultural archivist. Joy in People incorporates almost all of the artist’s major works to date, including installations, photographs, videos, posters, banners, performance works, and sound pieces. In addition, the show features a reconstruction of Open Bedroom, the artist’s first exhibition held in his parent’s bedroom in 1993, and a new presentation devoted to his many public interventions and non-gallery projects. The exhibition is curated by Ralph Rugoff, Director, Hayward Gallery.

  Venue Description:

  The Hayward Gallery forms part of the Southbank centre and was built for the Festival of Britain in 1968. It does not have any permanent collections, but hosts a regularly changing programme of single installations and small exhibitions of works by emerging artists.
