160 International Artists in a curated exhibition taking place over one week in September
For one week this September the Italian spa town of Chianciano will welcome scores of artists, gallery representatives and art enthusiasts to the highly anticipated second Biennale of Chianciano. 160 artists will be selected from thousands of hopeful applicants by an expert panel of judges to participate in this prestigious exhibition at the Museum of Art, Chianciano. Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Tuscan countryside, the Museum opened its doors to much acclaim and praise, the press coverage reaching as far as the US with a compelling review from The New York Times. The Museum has since staged a successful and engaging programme of events, and will soon add the 2011 Biennale to its list of accomplishments. In 2009 the represented nations ranged from Chile to India, Australia to Germany and from the USA to the Philippines, with over 10,000 visitors. The exhibition is staged over approximately 2000 square meters of the Museum and gathers some of the best established as well as emerging talents in the world. Organised and curated by the same team responsible for successful exhibitions at London's Victoria and Albert Museum and Lord Leighton House, the Biennale will repeat the outstanding success of two years ago. Such is the belief in the talent of these world-class artists that 300 art galleries from around the world are being hosted in 4* hotels in Chianciano to discover and collaborate with new artists, and 30 artists will be also selected from the Chianciano Biennale for an exhibition held at an established London gallery with 30 years of experience on the international market. The voice of the artists is one that takes precedence at the Biennale, refreshingly so, in an environment where directors and curators alone dictate the narrative of an exhibition. In the Chianciano Biennale artists have the opportunity to explain the premise of their creations, the emotions that they invoke and their intimate meanings. On top of the exhibition, guests and artists will have the opportunity to visit an Italian province imbedded with a rich culture and thousands of years of history - the birthplace of Dante Alighieri, Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Galileo. Visitors can explore the countryside that for so long has been an inspiration to poets and artists alike - in both its stunning architecture and natural beauty. Chianciano's appeal does not end there. Its provincial charm extends to the famous thermal springs, and quintessential restaurants, serving homemade pasta and the local wines of Montepulciano and Montalcino. Within this Romantic milieu the work of hundreds of artists will be exhibited and judged by a panel of prestigious judges, visitors to which will experience a breathtaking exhibition of exceptional art from around the world. The Biennale will transform the town of Chianciano into a hub of cultural diversity where artists, curators, gallery owners and art lovers will be able to meet one another, encouraging debate and the exchange of ideas, with events ranging from a charity auction to the "Biennale in Musica" concert. The exhibition will run from 17th to 24th September, open from 10am-12am and 4pm-7pm. Admission is free. The Museum is ideally situated and easily reachable, being close to Siena, Perugia, Florence and Rome. Convenient nearby airports are Roma Fiumincino, Ciampiano, and Florence. It is reachable by train (station: Chiusi-Chianciano Terme) and is in the centre of Chianciano Terme, the most important spa town in Italy. The Turin Horse by Bela Tarr
Thursday May 17 (8pm) @ Miami Beach Cinematheque On January 3, 1889 in Turin, Italy , Friedrich Nietzsche steps out of the doorway of number six, Via Carlo Albert.
