An exhibition exploring visions for creative interventions in the museum's rotunda space.

To mark the museum’s 50^th anniversary, the Guggenheim invited around 250 artists, architects and designers to imagine their dream intervention in the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed rotunda. This salon-style installation presents two-dimensional renderings of these projects, with the aim of emphasising the diverse range of proposals.

  The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was opened in 1959 based on the founder’s private art collection. The building was purpose-built and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The museum is dedicated to promoting art, architecture and other forms of visual culture, with an emphasis on modern and contemporary art. Today the Guggenheim is a museum in multiple locations with access to shared collections and common programming. The works held by the Guggenheim foundation come from six very different private collections, ranging from non-objective modern art to surrealist and abstract painting and sculpture, as well as genres such as Minimalism, Environmental and Conceptual art.

  The exhibition Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum was conceived as a fiftieth-anniversary fundraiser for the museum.
